Information For New Tenants
Sign up process
Once you have been offered a property by the London Borough of
Waltham Forest, you will have the chance to view it and if
acceptable you will be required to go through a sign up
process.
You will be given a Residents' Handbook and asked to sign a
tenancy agreement. As from May 2009 all new council tenants will be
offered an introductory tenancy which will last for an initial
period of 12 months.

You’ll also be given a New Tenants DVD to
take home and watch. The DVD will introduce you to your new
home and will run through the tenancy terms and conditions you are
signing up to. It will also explain your responsibilities as
a tenant and the landlords responsibility to you as a tenant.
Once you are happy and have accepted your offer of
accommodation, you’ll be given a date to attend a sign up
interview. We will tell you where the sign up will take place. The
sign up process takes at least an hour to complete and you will be
required to bring along relevant documentation, please click on the

As part of the sign up process all new tenants are required to
have their photograph taken for tenancy identification. These
photographs are part of the documentation necessary for a
successful sign-up. If for whatever reason you are not happy to be
photographed than please be aware that the sign up may not take
place and the offer of accommodation may be subsequently
withdrawn.
All information including photographs is stored subject to
Ascham Homes rules of
confidentiality.
All new tenants will visited in their new home during the first
6 weeks after their tenancy commences, this has been put in place
to check on the progress of tenants and solve any initial queries
as early as possible.

that you protect your home by making sure you comply with your
