Introductory tenancies
Introductory tenancies are ‘trial’ tenancies that last for one year. The London Borough of Waltham Forest does not currently have an introductory tenancy scheme, but it may do so in the future.
Under an introductory tenancy scheme, new council tenants are given a short-term tenancy where they have to meet certain conditions. If you keep to the terms of your tenancy – for example, you pay your rent and do not cause a nuisance – the tenancy becomes secure after one year. However, if you do not, we could quickly repossess the property through the county court.
You would be entitled to ask us to review any decision to serve notice of possession proceedings and to challenge any decision to take possession proceedings. After one year, your tenancy would automatically become secure as long as you have met all the conditions.
