Our equality achievements so far
We have already introduced a number of changes aimed at promoting equality in housing. These include:
- monitoring the way we handle some key service areas, including cases of domestic violence and harassment.
- monitoring the ethnic mix of our own workforce and those of our partners
- visiting older people to see what services they may need
- holding ‘service surgeries’ so that you can discuss your service needs or other issues in your preferred language
- opening our call centre on Saturdays to make it easier for you to call us
- offering translations or special formats of our main documents and of any letter we send
- employing staff who are from black and ethnic minority communities, and beating government targets in the number of people with disabilities who work with us
- developing policies – in partnership with ALERT – to tackle domestic violence and hate crimes
- running and supporting schemes to provide services for younger people in and around the estates, and
- introducing tenancy agreements that permit same sex partners to succeed to tenancies and allowing the partner to join the tenant in applying to buy their home
Although
we are proud of these achievements, we recognise that it is in the
interests of all our customers to make much faster progress. To do this
we have developed a new approach.
Our new approach to diversity and equality
