Neighbourhood Management
At the
Residents Conference in October 2010, we received positive
responses from residents about the need to review our service
approach to adopt a neighbourhood management model.
Since then we have been working towards bringing this approach
into place during 2011/12.
What is Neighbourhood Management?
Neighbourhood management is a service delivery approach which
brings the local community and local service providers together, at
a neighbourhood level to tackle problems and to improve services
and outcomes.
Neighbourhood Delivery Plans will be developed through
consultation and the involvement of local people and frontline
staff.
The plans will set outthe priorities for the neighbourhood and
will incorporate a range of initiatives across services and
partners within that area, to include specific plans for priority
estates.
This should lead to: -
- Improved “joined up” working
- Better use and planning of resources
- Clearer communication
Discussions with our partners, and the experience where
neighbourhood management has worked effectively elsewhere,
indicates that there is a case that “neighbourhoods” should be
defined as three areas across the borough. This allows wide enough
influence within an area, without being too small or too large to
become detached from extended community activity. This would also
allow a reporting consistency, and engagement with communities on
key service areas.
Neighbourhood management offers a more intelligent and
sustainable approach to service improvement. It is grounded in its
local community with a dedicated local team approach, and it
clearly focused on improving mainstream services from the
perspective of the resident.
