Family Fun Day
The Wood Street Family Fun
Day took place on Sunday 5th June 2011 at the Walthamstow Cricket,
Tennis & Squash Club in Greenway Avenue. This was a large
community event mainly for residents who reside in Wood Street
area, but open to all.
This was the first and largest event held in the ward and one
that Ascham Homes was actively involved in. The purpose of the
event was to unite the Wood Street area community. Partners who
were involved in the event included the Metropolitan Police,
Waltham Forest Council, Ascham Homes, and Walthamstow Cricket
Club.
This Family Fun Day brought
the community together for a fun packed day highlighting all the
interesting things there is to do in our area. The event encouraged
and inspired the younger generation of our community to join a
Sports Club, Scouts, Brownies, St John Ambulance, Police Cadets,
Territorial Army, Drama, Music or Dance. These and many more
organisations were on show at the event along with lots of fun
activities, entertainment, and catering.
There was also a talent show,
in attendance were, his Worshipful The Mayor of Waltham Forest,
Stella Creasy MP, Cllr Angie Bean, Cllr Richard Sweden, Cllr Peter
Barnett, Jo Murphy Deputy Chief Executive took part in the judging
of the talent show. Although the weather was wet over 300 people
were in attendance with lots of enjoyment. Over £1, 400 was raised
for the local safer neighbourhood panel, which will be used to
increase resident participation and build strong bridges with
local
community.
