Modern ALMO Update
On 11 October 2011 the Council’s Cabinet agreed to progress a
new ALMO agreement with Ascham Homes.
The Council considered a number of options, including extending
the current contract that runs out in 18 months time, but
ultimately opted for a new contract to commence in April 2012.
“This is good news for Ascham Homes residents who can expect an
even better service from the ALMO going forward,” said Cllr Saima
Mahmud, Cabinet Member for Housing and Development. “The Council
has increasing confidence in Ascham Homes, with whom we have
established a very productive working relationship that we want to
build on.”
Ascham Homes has made significant strides towards decent homes
compliance, delivered a financially sound organisation and
undertaken a radical change programme to transform the way its
staff work with residents. “Another report will be presented to
Cabinet in February 2012 outlining the full array of cost savings,”
said Cllr Mahmud. “Between now and then we will be undertaking
consultation with staff and trade unions and continue our dialogue
with Tenants and Residents Associations that have already been
involved in discussions.”
Tenants and Residents Associations have already been involved in
discussions about options for the service and further dialogue will
be carried out in the coming months including a workshop,
conference and survey. Benefits for residents include:
¡ The opportunity to deliver a more seamless housing service
through closer working between the Council and the ALMO
¡ Stability and certainty for the ALMO, which will help to
ensure its performance continues to improve and maximises
investment in our residents’ homes
¡ Retention – and strengthening – of the Council’s influence
over the services the ALMO provides to residents.
Subject to approval by the Secretary of State, the new contract
will commence on 1 April 2012.
